Eggs

Finally. I feel like I've been waiting forever for our Spring Chicks to start laying eggs.

Perhaps it's really the anticipation from waiting so long to actually get the chickens. My husband and I have been talking of chickens since we moved to our little house in the woods 3 years ago. But, with livestock comes the need for shelter, something that costs a lot more than the chickens.

I was so excited when I found the first egg about two weeks ago. Now I go on egg hunts 3 or 4 times a day. The girls have laid about two dozen now and I've got about 150 egg cartons in the basement that I've been saving in anticipation of these eggs.

We've got 13 hens (not all of them have figured it out yet) and are getting 3 to 5 eggs a day. The green tinted eggs are from Auracana chickens, aka the Easter Egg Chicken.

I suspect I'll be up to my eyeballs in eggs before I know it...

Woohoo! The eggs are beautiful. Wouldn't they be cute in a basket on the kitchen table.
